Self-Funded Research Initiatives by the Environmental and Sustainability Education Lab (EEL)

These ongoing research initiatives, supported by the EEL’s own resources, focus on cutting-edge and/or under-researched topics in Environmental and Sustainability Education. They reflect our commitment to pioneering innovative approaches and addressing emerging challenges across educational contexts.

Environmental Education and Humanities in school: literature, creative writing, slam poetry and the environment (2023–ongoing)
This project investigates how creative literary forms, particularly slam poetry and creative writing, can foster students’ meaningful connections with environmental issues and support the development of multi-literacies. It also explores how these arts-based approaches open new interdisciplinary pathways, enriching school-based sustainability education with imaginative and affective dimensions.

Environmental Narratives as educational tools for learning, care, and empowerment in the Anthropocene (2024–ongoing)
Drawing on the environmental humanities, this research examines diverse forms of environmental narratives—including storytelling, visual arts, and documentaries—to explore how we represent the environment, climate change, and the Anthropocene. It investigates how these narratives offer fresh ethical and creative perspectives, cultivate care, and empower learners by fostering complex understandings of the Anthropocene and humanity’s role within it.

The Psychology of well-being and learning for the environment (2025–ongoing)
Using experiential, narrative, and participatory methods, this study explores psychological processes related to well-being, environmental awareness, responsibility, learning, and motivation for sustainable action. Special emphasis is placed on women’s and vulnerable populations’ perspectives, highlighting their unique experiences and contributions.
