Other training activity

  • Participation of Environmental Education Lab (EEL-NKUA) in a teacher training seminar “Environmental Education for Sustainability & Citizen Science: Actions and Prospects”. The seminar was organised by the Environmental Education Lab (EEL-NKUA) and the Primary Education Directorate of Argolida in collaboration with the 3rd Primary School of Argos on 10.02.2023 (Argos, Argolida). The NKUA team gave three presentations, namely: a) “Environmental Education for Sustainability and citizen science in the European project Cos4Cloud: the actions taken so far and new opportunities for participating in the educational network.” (Maria Daskolia); b) “Citizen science and citizen observatories for biodiversity and environmental quality: Pl@ntNet, MINKA, OdourCollect” (Dimitris Gkotzos; c) “Examples of educational scenarios implemented in schools” (Naya Grillia). The second part of the seminar included group discussion and plenary reflection on ideas for school projects and activities, facilitated by the NKUA team. The seminar was attended by 20 teachers.   • Participation of Environmental Education Lab (EEL-NKUA) in a teacher training webinar “Training 4 Trainers (T4T)”. The webinar was organised by the Hellenic Foundation for European & Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) in the framework of the ARSINOE project on 08.02.2023. The NKUA team participated in this event with the following oral presentations: a) “Actions for the integration of citizen science in school Environmental Education for Sustainability in the framework of the European project Cos4Cloud” (Maria Daskolia); b) “Citizen Observatories on the Cos4Cloud project and their potential in school education” (Dimitris Gkotzos); c) “Collaborative design of educational scenarios for the integration of citizen science in school projects of sustainability education with the use of Cos4Coud’s citizen observatories” (Anna Trigatzi); d) “Case study 1: Primary school students discover and observe the human and non-human ecosystem of a wetland using Pl@ntNet and OdourCollect” (Matrona Pappa); e) “Case study 2: With the "first graders" in the National Garden. Students and parents as active citizens register the floral biodiversity of an urban park in city downtown” (Menia Daskalaki); f) “Case study 3: Biodiversity inventory in Parnitha 15 years after the big fire. Climate change education with Pl@ntNet for high schoolers” (Anna Trigatzi); and g) “Environmental Education for Sustainability and citizen science: a new educational network for cooperation and joint action” (Maria Pliota).   • Participation of Environmental Education Lab (EEL-NKUA) in a teacher training seminar entitled “The A. Tritsis Metropolitan Park as a field of Education for Sustainability”. The seminar was organised on 28.01.2023 by the Center for the Environment & Sustainability Education at the A. Tritsis Metropolitan Park in collaboration with the primary and secondary environmental education project coordinators in C and D Athens Education Districts. The NKUA team participated in this event with an oral presentation "Environmental Education and citizen science in urban parks: Pedagogical synergies and learning opportunities for sustainability" by Maria Daskolia. The seminar was attended by 40 teachers.
  • Participation of Environmental Education Lab (EEL-NKUA) in a Datathon-training activity. The Datathon was organised by the CSIC and NKUA in collaboration with the ARSINOE project with two training activities: a) Bio-Datathon: Trees for life, trees for learning (MINKA, training workshop) on 15.12.2022 and b) Bio-Datathon: Trees for life, trees for learning (MECODA, training workshop) on 11.01.2023. Each workshop was attended by 27 NKUA postgraduate students.
  • Participation of Environmental Education Lab (EEL-NKUA) in the European workshop “Innovative tools to introduce environmental citizen science projects into school”. The seminar was organised by the Environmental Educational Lab (EEL-NKUA) in collaboration with the Instituto de Ciencias del Mar of the National Scientific Research Council of Spain (ICM-CSIC) on 22-10-2022 (at the Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Ktima Syngrou Estate). The webinar was attended by 23 teachers of Primary and Secondary Education of Attica, who implement educational programs of environmental education and citizen science in their schools with the support and guidance of NKUA team, as well as by 5 NKUA postgraduate students.   • Participation of Environmental Education Lab (EEL-NKUA) in a teacher training webinar titled “The new cultural and environmental trails in the Sounion National Park”. The webinar was organised by the CEE of Lavrion in collaboration with the primary and secondary environmental education project coordinators in B Athens and Eastern Attica Education Districts on 19.06.2022. The NKUA team participated by coordinating a biodiversity inventory activity (a Bioblitz) with the digital application Pl@ntNet. The webinar was attended by 40 teachers.   • Participation of Environmental Education Lab (EEL-NKUA) in a teacher training webinar titled Memories of industrial heritage meet citizen science in the Drapetsona abandoned fertilizer factory area”. The webinar was organised by the CEE of Drapetsona on 20-21.05.2022 in collaboration with the Environmental Educational Lab (EEL-NKUA) and the primary and secondary environmental education project coordinators in B Athens and Piraeus Education Districts and the 6th Regional Centre for Educational Planning of Attica. The NKUA team participated with two presentations titled: “Citizen Science and Environmental Education for Sustainability: promoting school synergies for the benefit of science, environment and education” (Maria Daskolia) and “Using the digital tools of the Citizen Observatories Natusfera, Pl@ntNet and OdourCollect of the European project Cos4Cloud” (Dimitris Gkotzos).   • Participation of Environmental Education Lab (EEL-NKUA) in a teacher training webinar titled “School as a hub for the transformation of the food system”. The webinar was organised by Ellinogermaniki Agogi Schools in collaboration with the primary and secondary environmental education project coordinators in B, C and D Athens and Eastern Attica Education Districts on 18.05.2022. The NKUA team participated with Maria Pliota who made the following presentation: “Food for learning or learning for food?.   • Participation of Environmental Education Lab (EEL-NKUA) in a teacher training webinar/workshop titled “Citizen Science and Education for Sustainability”. The webinar/workshop was organised by the Environmental Educational Lab (EEL-NKUA) in collaboration with the primary and secondary environmental education project coordinators in B and C Athens and Eastern Attica Education Districts on 13.04.2022. The NKUA team participated with five presentations entitled: a) “Environmental Education for Sustainability and citizen science. Framework and possibilities for actions under the Cos4Cloud project” (Maria Daskolia), b) “Using the digital tools of the Cos4Cloud citizen observatories” (Dimitris Gkotzos), c) “The Cos4Cloud educational scenarios and their application in school” (Varvara Petridou), d) “Suggestions for pedagogical use of Pl@ntNet” (Vera Vorylla), and e) “Ideas for educational activities for EEfS using the CO tools of Cos4Cloud” (Anna Trigatzi, Matrona Pappa, Zacharenia Daskalaki).   • Participation of Environmental Education Lab (EEL-NKUA) in a teacher training webinar titled “Citizen Science, Active Citizens and Environmental Education for Sustainability”. The webinar was organised by the Pella Education Districts (in Northern Greece) in collaboration with the Environmental Educational Lab (EEL-NKUA) on 05.04.2022. The NKUA team participated with three presentations: a) “Environmental Education for Sustainability and Citizen Science: Empowering students to become active citizens in their schools and communities” (Maria Daskolia); b) “Digital Citizenship for the environment and sustainability with the Cos4Cloud Citizen Observatories” (Dimitris Gkotzos); and c) “From school to neighbourhood and the community. Ideas for doing environmental education for sustainability using the Cos4Cloud citizen observatories” (Matrona Pappa, Menia Daskalaki, Anna Trigatzi). The webinar was attended by 200 teachers.   • Participation of Environmental Education Lab (EEL-NKUA) in a teacher training webinar themed on “Herbs in our lives: Citizen Science and Environmental Education”. The webinar was organised by CEE of Makrinitsa in collaboration with the Environmental Educational Lab (EEL-NKUA) on 04.04.2022. The NKUA team participated with three presentations: a) “Citizen Science and Environmental Education: a reciprocal relationship for the benefit of nature, science and education” (Maria Daskolia); b) “Identification and recording of herbs and aromatic plants with the digital platforms and applications of the Citizen Observatories of the Cos4Cloud project” (Dimitris Gkotzos); and c) “Environmental Education Scenarios with Cos4Cloud's digital citizen science tools” (Anna Trigatzi, Matrona Pappa and Menia Daskalaki).   • Participation of Environmental Education Lab (EEL-NKUA) in a teacher training webinar titled “Oral History: learning history in a different way”. The webinar was organised by the Museum of School Life and Education on 31/03/2022. The NKUA team participated with Anna Trigatzi who gave a presentation on “Integrating oral history in educational practice” in which she presented a Cos4Cloud educational scenario and a school project that combined citizen science and oral history with environmental education.
  • Participation of the Environmental Education Lab (EEL-NKUA) in a teacher training webinar titled “Cultivating New Skills and Environmental awareness in the school garden”. The webinar was organised on 30.11.2021 by the Secondary Environmental Education Project Coordinators in B and C Athens Education Districts. The NKUA team participated with Maria Daskolia, Dimitris Gotzos and Anna Trigatzi who gave a presentation titled “Citizen Science in the school garden. Ideas and suggestions for educational activities with Cos4Cloud Citizen Observatories”.
  • Participation of the Environmental Education Lab (EEL-NKUA) in a teacher training webinar titled “Medicinal and aromatic plants in our lives”. The Directorate of Primary Education of Athens B through the Primary Environmental Education Project Coordinator implemented a webinar in cooperation with the CEE of Lavrio, the Primary Education of East Attica and the Secondary Education of Athens B and East Attica in the context of supporting teachers and strengthening their work (30/03/2021). The EEL-NKUA team was represented by Maria Daskolia, Dimitris Gotzos and Anna Trigatzi, who presented the topic “Recording aromatic plants and herbs of the region and their stories. An interdisciplinary environmental education proposal using citizen science approaches and tools”.
