The objectives set and being served by the Environmental Education Laboratory are the following:

• Developing research and academic collaboration in the fields of Environmental Education (EE) and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).
• Training undergraduate and postgraduate students on ΕΕ and ESD issues.
• Initial and continuing teacher education in EE and ESD.
• Lifelong environmental awareness, awareness raising and training of general population.
• Scientific support of the educational work and provision of consulting services to bodies, organizations, individuals and groups that promote  EE and ESD through their initiatives and actions.
• Developing partnerships and exchanging experiences with other institutions, centers, organizations and groups at national, European and international level on EE and ESD issues.
• Contribution to networking and creation of learning and practice communities among individuals, groups and organizations interested in and promoting EE and ESD.
• Development of pedagogical material, both printed and digital, for EE and ESD in the context of formal, non-formal and lifelong learning.
• Contribution to the debate on the formulation of national and European education policy in research and promotion of EE and ESD.
